Yet another slow month for reading, but not for life. In November, I got through two audiobooks:
- Missoula (audio) … Jon Krakauer, read by Mozhan Marno and Scott Brick
- Kitchen Confidential (audio) … Anthony Bourdain, read by author
Now that I’m looking at this, at least they both count for Non-Fiction November! Not that I had any free time to participate this year… boo. Anyway, both Missoula and Kitchen Confidential are excellent books, and I highly recommend both for different reasons. Missoula is another compelling investigative piece from John Krakauer, and Kitchen Confidential feels like a modern classic from the sardonic, indulgent writer-host-chef Anthony Bourdain. I first read Kitchen Confidential in 2012 on paperback, and I think it was even better listening to the man himself read it on audio!
Other than those two, I’m still puttering through The Heart Goes Last by Margaret Atwood, ‘Salem’s Lot by Stephen King, and A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara (and barely… I’m only about 20 pages in). I just picked up Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl by Carrie Brownstein today at the library—looking forward to this one. I’ve given up on all my 2015 reading challenges, I know I can’t keep up with them, especially by this point. I just want to read whatever I want at a relaxed pace, no pressure, the rest of this year.
I had a nice time up in Wisconsin for Thanksgiving last week, and I hope you all had a good holiday as well. What did you read last month? Any non-fiction for Non-Fiction November? What are you planning to read to close out the year?
How was Kitchen Confidential?! And what’s Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl about? It sounds interesting.
Kitchen Confidential is one of my favorites! If you like any of Anthony Bourdain’s shows, you’ll like this book. I really should read more by him. Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl is Carrie Brownstein’s memoir—she was the guitarist for Sleater-Kinney and is now on Portlandia. I love a good rock memoir!
