April 21: Top ten all-time favorite authors
Great (and TOUGH) topic! What are the qualifications, the number of their books you’ve read? Maybe you’ve only read one book, but it was totally amazing and you can’t wait for their next? An author you will buy and read everything they’ve written? What about their public persona, do you agree with their views and statements? I made this list based on a little bit of all of these. In alphabetical order by last name:
Margaret Atwood
Roxane Gay
Jon Krakauer
Wally Lamb
Rohinton Mistry
Michael Pollan
Mary Roach
Lizz Winstead
Cheryl Strayed
Howard Zinn
Couple of childhood favorites: Roald Dahl, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
Honorable mentions: Stephen King, Barbara Kingsolver, Cormac McCarthy, Stewart O’Nan, Lionel Shriver, Colm Tóibín… errgh and others!
Who are your all-time favorite authors?
YES MARGARET ATWOOD! I had also considered Roxane, but I have only read one of her books so far and didn’t think that justified it. But I love this list! Mine is up on my blog. 🙂
I’ve only read Roxane’s Bad Feminist so far, too, but I love her work on The Toast, and I have a copy of Untamed State waiting TBR. I’ll go check out your list today! 🙂
Yay for Cheryl Strayed, if only for the wonderful Tiny Beautiful Things!
Agreed! It was a great listen on audiobook for a long drive 🙂
Atwood and Mistry were on my list too!
Yay! They’re so great 🙂
There’s quite a few here that I haven’t heard of! Will have to check them out. I posted my list here: https://lipsyy.wordpress.com/2015/04/21/top-ten-tuesday-favourite-authors/
Awesome! I’ll check out your list today 🙂
Cool list. My list would include Robert E. Howard and Stephen King 🙂
Thanks! Yeah King is a very close runner-up on my list… I’ve read several books of his and enjoy them immensely, but he just doesn’t move me the way my top ten do. Of course, lists like these are fluid over time! 🙂
I’ve only read Stiff by Mary Roach, but her writing style is so great. She makes a person who has little interest in science become very interested. Wally Lamb writes some beautiful, heart-wrenching stories.
Agreed! I have Roach’s Packing for Mars but haven’t gotten to it yet, and I’m interested in Spook. Lamb’s I Know This Much is True was my first chunkster! I read that 900+-pages in like 3 days.
