June 17: Top ten books on my summer 2014 TBR list
Again, I have been awful on my seasonal TBR lists. 4/10 (summer 2013), 6/11 (fall 2013), 4/10 (winter 2013), and 2/10 (spring 2014). And when I wrote out my list this morning, most of those I picked were already on one of these other lists! Maybe this summer is when I’ll finally hunker down and get to these books! In no particular order:
- We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver (finish)
- Burial Rites by Hannah Kent
- The Unwinding by George Packer
- The End of Your Life Book Club by Will Schwalbe
- Columbine by Dave Cullen
- Driven by Donald Driver
- Five Days at Memorial by Sheri Fink
- The Son by Philipp Meyer
- Helter Skelter by Vincent Bugliosi and Curt Gentry
- An ebook on my iPad… maybe The Goldfinch or We Need New Names
Of course only one of these is on my challenge lists this year, and then there are the July and August books for my library’s book group: Guns, Germs and Steel (Diamond) and The Botany of Desire (Pollan). What’s at the top of your reading list this summer?
Ooh ooh! You have so many good books listed there I don’t know where to start 😀 Columbine and Five Days are two of the BEST nonfiction books ever. Burial Rites was a huge fave of mine last year. You have a great summer ahead!
LOL Now I just actually have to READ these!!! Seriously I have put them off way too long!
As long as you read, right? End of Your Life… is so sad, but an excellent book for all that. It made me want to go hug my mom.
Yes, as long as you’re reading! I really want to read End of Your Life Bookclub, but I admit I’m figuring it will break my heart, especially after losing both my grammas in the last 8 months.
Columbine, Burial Rites and We Need to Talk About Kevin are such great books, it will be really interesting to see what you think about reading Columbine and Kevin in quickish succession…..
Huh, I didn’t even think about the Kevin and Columbine connection. Maybe I’ll have to space them out with a few books in between…
Is Helter Skelter the book about Charles Manson? If so, it’s excellent!
Yep, that’s the one! I’m morbidly curious. Been into a lot of dark, heavy books lately, for some reason.
Nice choices, I look forward to hearing what you think of these books, particularly The End of Your Life Book Club (I need to know if I should read it)
I am afraid it may be one of the rare books that make me cry. Might be a little too close to the deaths of my grammas to read, but hey, it’s all good loving feelings, you gotta feel ’em!
Burial Rites should have been on my list as well. I wonder how I left it off?
It’s been on my list for far too long…!
