It’s Monday, what are you reading?—a weekly blog meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.
Okay people—I think I might be sort of back to normal-ish pretty soon with my schedule. The next couple of weeks are a bit hellish, but I might be able to squeeze in some posts.
Last week I finished reading True Grit by Charles Portis for the KC Public Library’s 2013 Big Read. I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected! I’m not really much of a “Westerns” person, but True Grit was laced with dry humor that was right up my alley. We had a really lively discussion at the library last Wednesday, so I was waiting until after that to do my post here on the book, but then…
I went to Chicago on Thursday for a family birthday party weekend and ended up finishing The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood on the train. Awesome, awesome book. I am in love with this series! I have the final one in the trilogy, MaddAddam, on my shelf—been waiting for me to finish Flood so I’m looking forward to getting to that one soon! Hopefully before the end of the year.
Finally though, I am reading 11/22/63 by Stephen King for our #112263Along, hosted by me here on mylittleheartmelodies.com! On the train coming back yesterday I was able to get almost all the way through Part 2. It has been fun to see Jake (our protagonist) running into familiar faces. I am just really in awe of King’s commitment to his weird sort of alternate universe he’s created in Maine.
It is not too late to sign up and join us for the #112263Along! Check out my announcement post here or sign up on the linky below 🙂
True Grit is such a great read 🙂 I’d never read a western before (or since!) but I loooved that one.
I’m hoping to dive into the MaddAddam trilogy SOON. I have the 3rd book on my shelf. The 2nd book came in at the library. Now I’m impatiently waiting for #1 so I can get going!
Have a great week 😀
Yes! I’m not sure Westerns are really for me in general, but True Grit has it’s own beat 🙂
I hope you love the MaddAddam trilogy!! I’m almost certain I will revisit this series again in the future (and I don’t re-read often).
I loved how well King tied in characters from his other books in 11/22/63 – it was just so seamless. I caught it, even though I’m not a huge King reader, and thought it was just such a great nod.
Yeah! As soon as they said Derry 1958 I was pretty much expecting to visit the It kids. 🙂 It really feels like a whole universe King created, not just like, coincidence or an “easter egg” inside-joke for his devout readers.
