it’s monday! what are you reading?

It’s Monday, what are you reading?—a weekly blog meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

I finished two books last week (A Walk Across the Sun and Big Brother) and I was really excited to be back down to one book! I think one reason I’ve stalled out and hit a reading slump is trying to read more than one book at the same time.

However, the one book I’m down to now I’m stalling out on as well. About This Life by Barry Lopez is my library book group’s September pick and while it’s beautifully written and interesting, it’s a bit of a slow read for me. It’s somewhat introspective and very descriptive—two things that I’ve struggled with lately as far as my attention span goes. Life really amped up for me in the last few weeks with school starting (meaning work is busier) and rehearsals and everything, so I’m having trouble sitting quietly and focusing on a more cerebral read.

Also once it became pretty clear that I’m not going to finish in time for the discussion (it’s this Wednesday and I’m only halfway through the book… not a lot of free reading time in the next couple days either :-/ ) I lost steam for it. Sigh! It’s a great collection of travel essays though and I would recommend it.

Next up… well… I might have gotten myself into trouble again. I just got the Overdrive app on my ipad and downloaded an ebook to it to test it out (works), and then a book I requested from the library a while ago just came through for pick up (totally forgot I put anything on hold!). AND I’m dying to read Margaret Atwood’s The Year of the Flood and MaddAddam, which I have copies of at home. DERPS!

  1. Sorry to hear about your reading slump! I’m hoping to finally get to Elizabeth Svoboda’s “What makes a Hero?” (nonfiction). I meant to read it weeks ago, but I just haven’t gotten around to it.

    • Yeah, slumps are the worst! 😦 I just have been super busy with work and something almost every night after work, so haven’t had a lot of free time in the first place lately, either. That’s pretty normal once school/concert season starts, though!

I hope you are able to get to your book soon! 🙂

    • Thanks. I think I might need to quit my TBR Pile and Eclectic Reader challenges. When I moved in July and fell behind on them I have just had the worst time trying to catch up, and the motivation has waned considerably because of that, too. Oh well, there’s always next year!
