It’s Monday, what are you reading?—a weekly blog meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.
The last couple of weeks I’ve felt really bogged down by reading… specifically, reading four books at the same time. I was still in the middle of Under the Dome by Stephen King for the DomeAlong (hosted by Coffee and a Book Chick), and was trying to do Little Star by John Ajvide Lindqvist and Ready Player One by Ernest Cline (audio) for a few reasons: I’m going out of town again later this week and didn’t want to lose momentum on them (turns out I’m not such a great reader on trips…) and they were due back to the library soon anyway. And I was still working my way through The Orchardist by Amanda Coplin… my first experience reading an ebook. AND THEN! I happend to go to the library last week to pick out one more audiobook for my upcoming trip and accepted a check-out of Undaunted Courage by Stephen E. Ambrose for this month’s Stranger Than Fiction book club group at the library. Eeep!
Well! Despite being a pretty boring holiday and weekend as far as fireworks and parties go, I was able to finish reading Little Star and The Orchardist (reviews coming soon). Although I read more than 100 pages of Undaunted Courage, and it was good readin’, I made the tough decision to return it to the library unfinished. Between going out of town for nearly a week and then when I get back, I have to move again (UGH), it started sinking in that I likely couldn’t finish the book in time for (or even attend) the library’s discussion group about it. And of course, I have so many other books on my TBR I want to get to this summer.
So now I’m just down to Under the Dome, which is probably good. I haven’t quite decided if I want to lug it up to Wisconsin with me later this week. Pretty sure I won’t have much sit-alone-and-read-quietly time up there (which is fine! I have plenty of that at home) and it’s a beast. But I do still have 500+ pages to go before the readalong ends on July 27… derp. Maybe I will bring it up 😉
I have three audiobooks lined up for the drive:
- Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood
- City of Thieves by David Benioff
- Let’s Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson
…and did I mention this weekend I already started listening to the fourth audiobook I checked out for the drive, The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion?
What are you reading this week?
