it’s monday! what are you reading?

It’s Monday, what are you reading?—a weekly blog meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey. I’m going to try to get into doing this one more regularly now that my reading pace has kicked back into gear!

So far my summer has been going pretty well, and I’ve been able to read a lot! In May I read a full seven books and started two more in the last days of the month. I’ve also been apartment hunting a bit and planning my summer vacations (mostly road trips… already started a list of audiobooks to get for the drives, but suggestions welcome!).

This week I’m reading The Love Song of Jonny Valentine by Teddy Wayne. I won it for free as a giveaway contest prize from Jen at The Relentless Reader a couple months ago, but lost track of it in our big move in March. She had another giveaway recently which reminded me about this one, and compelled me to dig it out of our packed stuff.

The Love Song of Jonny Valentine is a novel told from the perspective of eleven-year-old Jonny, a bubblegum pop sensation on tour for his sophomore album. Despite his ultra-tight PR packaging by his record label and mother-manager Jane, Jonny is still a vulnerable boy with a vivid imagination, discovering feelings for girls and his budding puberty, confused and dismayed by adult behavior, and realizing how fickle and cruel fame can be. I am actually almost finished with this; it’s an original (to me) and astute commentary on American obsession with celebrity.

In addition to this one, I also joined the Dome Along last week, hosted by Natalie at Coffee and a Book Chick, in which we read Stephen King’s Under the Dome. I’m only about 16% through (1074 pages total), but I’m finding it tough to put down!

AND I have lots of catching up to do with my BUST Magazine subscription. I’m at least three issues behind due to that stupid move a couple months ago!

What are you reading this week?

  1. I’m looking forward to the Under the Dome special on tv. I’m reading Brave New World by Aldous Huxley and Forever in Blue by Ann Brashares.

    • I wish I could watch the Under the Dome special! At the moment I don’t have TV at home (well, my husband and I just do Netflix discs, actually). Only once in a while I wish I had regular TV, for sports and stuff like this!

It has been FOREVER since I read Brave New World. Due for a re-read eventually, I think. Thanks for stopping by!

    • It’s great so far! I’m around 200ish pages in, and I hear it only gets better after that. For being such a chunkster, it’s actually a fairly quick read! Thanks for stopping by 🙂 I’ll check out your post.
