Alive by Piers Paul Reid is an amazing, gripping true story of survival, friendship, and the strength of the human spirit. I was fascinated with the impossibly desperate situation these young men faced. Their cannibalism as a last resort means of survival raised deep ethical questions within me as I read. Would I have the courage to do the same? I don’t know. I enjoyed the unbiased writing style from Reid. His portrayal of each character was fair and he described the cannibalism in a frank, no-nonsense manner, making it much easier to understand why and how they could carry out that option. Their unbelievable experience was fascinating and harrowing, even more so because it was true. Highly recommend!
