sin in the second city

I finished Sin in the Second City a few weeks ago. Great book! This non-fiction novel was an easy and enjoyable read. Karen Abbott’s meticulous research blended seamlessly with her storytelling style, making this book a fun and interesting read. I was transported to Prohibition-era Chicago, the south-side Levee district, the ornate parlors, the ragtime piano… it was difficult to put down at times. The characters are well-profiled and totally brought to life, especially the book’s protagonists, the Everleigh sisters, who should be remembered as pioneers for women in business (whatever business that may be!).¬† It was interesting to see the parallels between cultural, political, and religious issues now and 100 years ago.
