I finished Sin in the Second City a few weeks ago. Great book! This non-fiction novel was an easy and enjoyable read. Karen Abbott’s meticulous research blended seamlessly with her storytelling style, making this book a fun and interesting read. I was transported to Prohibition-era Chicago, the south-side Levee district, the ornate parlors, the ragtime piano… it was difficult to put down at times. The characters are well-profiled and totally brought to life, especially the book’s protagonists, the Everleigh sisters, who should be remembered as pioneers for women in business (whatever business that may be!). It was interesting to see the parallels between cultural, political, and religious issues now and 100 years ago.
